Warhammer 40K: Darktide is the latest horde-shooter title from Fatshark, creator of the Warhammer: Vermintide series. As one can expect from these types of games, Darktide also features a wide variety of mutated monsters and space horrors to kill, from Plague Monsters and Poxwalkers to Groaners. So what kind of enemies are these Groaners in Warhammer 40K: Darktide?
Groaners and Horde Enemy Groups in Warhammer 40K: Darktide Explained
Basically, there are four groups of horde enemies in Darktide:
- Dregs: Chaos Cultists or infected people in yellowish rags (sometimes protected with a patch or two of metal plates) who wield crude weaponry.
- Scabs: Traitor or infected Moebian Sixth Imperium regiment, dressed in armor and armed with military-grade armaments.
- Poxwalkers: Zombie-like humans infected by whatever evil concoction unleashed by the Pestilence Chaos God Nurgle at the Tertium Hive City. Usually seen naked and have horns and/or tendrils coming out of their bodies.
And the last one is the Groaners. They are called that because these Groaners are often heard groaning in pain while mumbling about their horrible predicaments; saying about maggots inside their flesh or how cold death feels. It seems these people are still in the process of transforming into Poxwalkers, therefore retaining some self-awareness and still wearing clothes like normal human beings — compared to most other Nurgle worshippers anyway.
To see which enemies are which, you can head to the Meat Grinder in the Psychanium once you are in the Atoma Prime hub. There you can test weapons against different types of enemies; their names will be shown and as you level up your Trust Level more types of enemies can be spawned as well. Groaners are one of the weakest enemies in Warhammer 40K: Darktide since their bodies are barely protected. You can easily deal with them using crowd-control weapons such as the Shovel and Swords.
