Fatshark, developer of the fantasy-themed Left 4 Dead-styled horde action game Warhammer: Vermintide, is bringing a new take on the series with Warhammer 40K: Darktide. Instead of destroying waves of rat-men, now as Rejects — bands of hardened prisoners and convicted criminals — you are tasked to clean out the Hive City Tertium of Nurgle worshippers or die trying. To be able to serve the God Emperor of Mankind faithfully, though, of course, we have to know the ins and outs of our equipment. In this article, we will discuss what are Curios and how they work in Warhammer 40K: Darktide.

Warhammer 40K: Darktide – Curios Explained

Simply put, Curios are additional equipment that gives passive bonuses to your characters, just like how Trinkets and Charms work in Vermintide or Rings/Necklaces/etcetera in most RPGs. You can buy them from the Armory Exchange, and there are a total of three Curio slots, each unlocked by leveling up the Trust Levels of your Reject:

  • First Curio slot: Trust Level 8
  • Second Curio slot: Trust Level 16
  • Third Curio slot: Trust Level 24

If you have problems equipping the first Curio you get, try owning two or more Curios; buy another one from the Armory then one of them should be available to be equipped. It’s not known if that’s genuinely how the Curio system should work or if it is a bug, but for now, that’s how it goes. To be able to buy more Curios, you will want to take Challenges that reward you with Tokens from the Requisitorium. Requisitorium itself will only be unlocked once you reach Trust Level 11 on your specific character.

Like what you would expect from stat-buffing equipment, certain Curios can increase your maximum Stamina, Health, give you more Wounds (increases the number of Downs), or add additional Dockets or crafting materials when you loot them during matches. These Stats, however, are randomized. And unlike Vermintide‘s Trinkets, Curios are not shared between characters, so prepare to grind quite a bit once you step your foot into Tertium.

Warhammer 40K: Darktide will be available on November 30, 2022, for Xbox Series X|S and PC via Steam and Game Pass.
