On May 25, 2021, during a livestream broadcast by the Dead by Daylight developers, Boon Totems were revealed to be an upcoming game mechanic. Matt S., the Design Director of Dead by Daylight, offered very limited information about them. Here is what we know so far.

Update: 9.28.21

The newest Player Test Build is the first time we’re seeing Boon Totems in action in Dead by Daylight. After months of speculation, we have finally found out that Boon Totems are a feature for Survivors to help themselves and each other. Dull Totems can be blessed by Survivors to become Boon Totems that provide specific perks to any Survivor within its range of effect. The following list outlines the Perks available for Boon Totems and what they do.

  • Circle of HealingRange: 28 metersEffect: Any survivor standing within range gains a 100% boost to healing speed and can full heal themselves without needing a medkit.Shadow StepRange: 28 metersEffect: Any survivor in range of the totem will have their scratch marks and auras hidden from the killer. This effect lasts for 4 seconds after leaving the totem’s effect radius.

Those are currently the only Boon abilities available. Much like other perks and abilities, we expect more Boons to be added.

It’s worth noting that each survivor can have only one Boon active at a time. Like the survivors, the Killer can hear the Boon Totem if they are in range, and they can remove the blessing if they find it!

What are Boon Totems?

The most important information we have was straight from Matt S. during the live broadcast mentioned above. In it, he describes Boon Totems with the following: “Boon Totem Perks will give a brand new interaction to Survivors standing next to a Dull Totem in a Trial.”
