West of Dead was released today on Nintendo Switch, letting players bring twin-stick shooting, the wild west, and Ron Perlman’s voice on the go.

West of Dead on Switch puts players in the boots of an undead cowboy named William Mason, who is voiced by Hellboy‘s Ron Perlman. Set in Purgatory (which is apparently in Wyoming) in 1888, you must figure out why the dead have stopped being sent to heaven or hell while on a mission to kill an evil preacher.

Playing the twin-stick shooter, you’ll notice a tactical cover system, which is unusual for the genre. The dark environment of Purgatory works in conjunction with these gameplay mechanics to make for a fast-paced and fluid twin-stick shooting experience. The procedurally generated environment of Purgatory stays fresh as players attempt to achieve their goals time and time again in this rogue-lite. While your experience will be different with each run, the experience you gain as a player, not to mention the upgrades you carry with you through restarts, should make each attempt a little easier than the last. If you’ve ever played Dead Cells, you know the kind of game West of Dead is.

West of Dead On Switch

West of Dead on Switch isn’t the only place you can play the game, just the latest. It’s also available on PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC via numerous storefronts. If you have Game Pass on Xbox or PC you already have access to the game through that. With West of Dead on Switch, it’s now on all major video game platforms, which is great for everyone. West of Dead seems like a particularly great game to pick up and play for a few minutes during a commute or trip, so the Switch is a great platform for it to be on.
