Battle Royale games have been flooding the scene ever since Fortnite was released back in 2017. Other games have tried to implement the idea in such titles as Battlefield V, Call of Duty: Black Ops 4, and Tetris 99. Phones have been a gateway to attach gamers mobility through it, but the only one to come out on top has been Fortnite – until now with Watchers.
Watchers is a top-down battle royale shooter where the losers can also be the winners. Keeping the traditional 24 free-for-all battle, each player will be thrown into a 1960’s setting and having to survive in a rural, suburban town. Guns are sprawled around the large map and the traditional circle closing in every other minute or so. The last one to live would win the match. However, the losers are not entirely out of the game.
In Watchers, players who have died in the game are given the opportunity to bet on who will win the ultimate fight. The players who have the most bets or influences on certain survivors will have harder challenges to overcome as certain anomalies will appear out of nowhere. These objects are laser bombardments raining from the sky or a random refrigerator dropping on top of a contender. Not only will the dead be able to kill other surviving players, but buff them as well. Such options would be giving a player speed boost or making them giant. These tactics will help determine the outcome of each battle and has the chance to drastically turn the tides of the match.
A beta for Watchers can be found here and has two days left to be demoed (July 21st – August 4th, 2019). Watchers does not have an official release date but TBA around 2019. The battle royale will be coming out for Android, IOS, and Windows (Steam). For all other gaming news, be sure to follow The Nerd Stash on Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, and Youtube.
