Monster Hunter Stories is out today for Nintendo 3DS, and Capcom has released a new trailer that showcases the game’s unique features. This spin-off of the Monster Hunter series features a unique artstyle appealing to a younger audience, and changes the real-time controls from the main entries for a turn-based gameplay, making the game a more traditional RPG.
A key difference on Stories is that players take control of a Rider, not a Hunter. This immediately shifts the concept of the game into fighting alongside monsters, instead of against them. Players befriend the creaturesby stealing their eggs and hatching them, then help them develop their abbilities and even customize their appearance. In battle, heroes can launch combo attacks with their monsters.
The game offers free DLC content consisting on tournament types and rules, trials that reward players with new Monstie eggs and gear, and differen backgrounds for the Rider Card. It also allows for multiplayer game via Street Pass.
Monster Hunter Stories will be the last title of the series to launch before the next mainline entry, Monster Hunter: World for PS4 and Xbox One, which arrives on early 2018. A Nintendo Switch version of Monster Hunter XX was recently released in Japan, although Capcom has not given any information about a possible release in the West.
