Warner Bros. teases movie announcements in September with a trio of posts on social media.
The studio may have recently reshuffled its upcoming release dates drastically, but it’s clear they are still looking to the future. Warner Bros. released a set of videos on its Instagram alluding to September announcements for The Goonies, Sherlock Holmes, and Beetlejuice. While the videos for Sherlock Holmes and Beetlejuice used repurposed footage from the respective films, The Goonies showed off a fancy new CGI clip featuring an animated treasure map, leading to the word “September.” The other two videos also allude to something happening in September as well.
The posts don’t offer much explanation but it begs the question; What’s coming in September?. One answer might be that they are hinting at future HBO Max arrivals, but given that The Goonies and the second Sherlock Holmes film were both added this month, this doesn’t seem likely to be what Warner Bros is teasing.
The other explanation is upcoming sequels, which doesn’t quite fit for Sherlock Holmes as a third film is already scheduled for December 2021. It does however pique the interest of fans of Goonies who have been waiting for a sequel for years. In the case of Beetlejuice, there have many attempts to make a sequel happen, with the last update in 2019 being that it had been shelved.
What kind of project could prompt such well-made graphics The Goonies and cryptic hints for Sherlock Holmes and Beetlejuice? It’s probably the Blu-ray sets, but it’s fun to keep guessing. Something is definitely on the way and we’ll know for sure in September.
