With a few projects over at Marvel Studios currently going changes in production, the cinematic television shows for Disney+ have maintained consistency with updates and footage. And today, the first official trailer for the upcoming WandaVision series has made its debut.
To say that there is a lot to reflect on from the trailer is an understatement. In the new footage, we’re treated to snaps of the titular characters in their accurate comic outfits – in a way; Wanda’s magic beyond red telepathy and telekinesis is further expanded upon; strange sequences of character interaction with a woman named Agnes (played by Kathryn Hahn) and a couple by the names of Mr. and Mrs. Heart (played by Fred Melamed and Debra Jo Rupp, respectively); and heartwarming moments of love and smiles being shared between Wanda and Vision.
What is most bizarre, however, is the show’s setting in a different period in history. The Scarlet Witch and Vision are living an uncanny reality in the 1950s where their suburban fantasy falls onto suspicious eyes. Blending both 50s sitcoms and fantasy elements, the world around the superhero couple seems to shift through space and time with various television themes and familiarities being touched upon scene after scene.
“Twilight Time” by The Platters can be heard throughout the trailer. The song was a #1 hit on the Billboard charts in 1958.
WandaVision is scheduled for a December 2020 debut exclusively on Disney+, though this might change due to production halts from the COVID-19 pandemic that occurred in March of this year. The miniseries will also be a part of Phase Four of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Other shows such as The Falcon and the Winter Soldier, Loki, and What If…? are expected to premiere within the next year for the online streaming service.
