Aardman, the studio behind the iconic stop-motion series Wallace & Gromit, is hiring multiple positions to work on an upcoming game. They are currently looking to hire a gameplay programmer, a level and narrative designer, and a character artist.

A “mad, open world”

According to the listings, Aardman is working with a major publisher on an open-world game for a brand-new IP. No publisher is specifically named in the listings. However, Aardman had previously announced a partnership with Bandai Namco in a Tweet in December of 2020. The announcement mentions the development of a new IP, so it is safe to assume that this is the game they are hiring for.

The job listings use a few key phrases that let us guess the genre of this future title. In addition to it being open-world, one listing requires previous experience working on “3d action-adventure titles.” Across all of the listings, the studio mentions their focus on “inventive mechanics and compelling characters imbued with the humor, love, and craftsmanship you’d expect from Aardman.”

Aardman sets their sights on the current-gen

The listings mention that the unannounced title is in development for the PC, Xbox Series X/S, and the PlayStation 5. Seeing as the jobs posted are for high-level positions, an announcement of the new game is unlikely to happen soon. Creating an open-world game for a new IP is no easy task.

The Wallace & Gromit studio appears to have high hopes for this game and is setting the bar accordingly. This isn’t the studio’s first leap into the world of video games. They co-developed the World War I adventure game 11-11: Memories Retold with DigixArt. That game, also published by Bandai Namco, was released back in 2018 to fairly positive reviews.

Only time will tell what sort of imaginative story we are in for with this game. Will it feature stop-motion animation like Wallace & Gromit or Chicken Run?

Whatever the case may be, we are excited to learn more.
