It has been confirmed that Walking Dead star Melissa McBride is exiting the Carol and Daryl spinoff. The Daryl and Carol spinoff project was announced in September of 2020. The project was to be centered around the badass duo of Norman Reedus and Melissa McBride’s characters, the only remaining original cast members of the now over ten-year long-running show. This exit comes as a shock to many ride-or-die Walking Dead fans, but no worries, the spinoff is still happening but instead with a focus on longtime fan favorite Daryl Dixon.

Carol and Daryl

The Walking Dead’s Carol Peletier, played by Melissa McBride, has always been a resilient character, and Carol has been through many ups and downs. Of course, other than dealing with the zombie apocalypse, she was in an abusive marriage and has had to deal with the loss of her daughter; she’s survived for a long time in The Walking Dead universe. According to a recent article from ScreenRant, they are the longest-surviving characters on The Walking Dead, both appearing in 166+ episodes as of mid-April 2022.

According to an update from TVLine, the initial buzz suggested the decision for Melissa McBride’s Carol to leave was a creative choice. Still, now an AMC rep maintains it was about logistics. TVLine first reported Melissa McBride’s leave from the Carol-Daryl Spinoff earlier today.

The Carol and Daryl spinoff is one of many The Walking Dead projects happening now at AMC. The Walking Dead flagship show is currently in its last season. There’s another spinoff Isle of the Dead, focused on Negan (Jeffrey Dean Morgan) and Maggie (Lauren Cohan). Another episodic anthology series called Tales of The Walking Dead is on its way. Fear the Walking Dead just wrapped up its seventh season. The original Walking Dead TV series is coming to a close with three eight-episode segments; of the three, the second one just concluded.
