After the great success of Peacemaker on HBO Max, another spin-off of The Suicide Squad is reportedly in the works. Viola Davis is in talks for a series centered on her character Amanda Waller, the woman behind Task Force X and the story’s main villain. Variety reports that while the exact details of the plot have not been shared, the series will build off of Waller’s appearance in the season finale of Peacemaker. Davis is also in talks to serve as executive producer alongside James Gunn, Peter Safran, and Christal Henry, who executive produced the HBO series, Watchmen.

The Last Time We Saw Viola Davis as Amanda Waller

Viola Davis has portrayed Amanda Waller in Suicide Squad (2016), The Suicide Squad (2021), and Peacemaker (2022). We last saw Amanda Waller at the end of Peacemaker season one, which according to Deadline, was the biggest single-day audience an HBO Max series has had so far. In the season finale, Waller watched uncomfortably as her daughter and spy Adebayo (Danielle Brooks) exposed her work with Task Force X in a press conference on live TV. For those unfamiliar with the franchise, Task Force X (a.k.a. the Suicide Squad) is a team of villains assembled by Waller to take out dangerous threats. Waller forces them to comply by inserting devices into their heads that will explode at her command when a team member goes rogue.

In the Peacemaker series, she assigned one of those “villains,” Christopher “Peacemaker” Smith (John Cena), to work alongside a black ops squad to eliminate an alien threat. But when Adebayo became friends with Peacemaker and realized Waller intended to frame Peacemaker and send him back to prison, she turned on Waller and exposed her mother to the whole world. The short-fused and power-hungry waller is undoubtedly not going to take this well, and it will be interesting to see how she handles this in the new series.

More Spin-Offs of The Suicide Squad May Be Coming

This is the second spin-off of The Suicide Squad after Peacemaker, which was a big success with fans and critics to the point of earning a second season. Amanda Waller is a wicked but fascinating character, and it will be interesting to get a more in-depth look at her in the new series. Other characters from Gunn’s The Suicide Squad were a real blast to watch, and we will likely see more of them in other series.
