ViaComCBS is reportedly laying off dozens, if not hundreds of employees over the next five or six days. Rumors of the layoffs were first anonymously posted on the business watchdog site, TheLayoff.
Think about that process for a moment. Employees of sites like The GiantBomb and GameSpot have to nervously check their mail every day for the next week to see if they get a letter. If this is truly how ViaComCBS is doing it, you have to wonder if they’re being intentionally cruel.
You also have to wonder who legal this process is. Staying away from labor law entirely, it’s still the worst possible way to fire someone. Not only are these employees seeing their friends and coworkers get let go, but they have to sit and wait and hope a letter shows.
It’s such an odd way to go about doing this kind of thing, it’s easy to dismiss the rumors as some kind of trolling. However, ViaComCBS has apparently indeed started laying people off.
Will Fulton confirmed he’d been let go on Twitter.
I’ve officially been laid off, so please do let me know if you have any job ideas https://t.co/hiOmbFcT8K

The worst part about his layoff is that he saw it coming for about a month.
If there is a bit of good news in this story, it seems unlikely ViaComCBS is going through with this in the cruelest way possible. Unless Fulton was informed the company distributed all the letters.
ViaComCBS Continues Bloody Summer
This is hardly the first time the firm cut its staff significantly. In May, more than 400 employees were laid off from its CBS division.
Indeed, it’s worth watching this situation to see what happens next.
