Nintendo has revealed that the “sequels” to the popular Pokemon Black and Pokemon White Nintendo DS titles will arrive later this year.  Out in Japan this June, the rest of the world can expect to catch ’em all this fall.  As of the announcements by Nintendo, the game will only be headed to the Nintendo DS.  Despite Nintendo’s recent surge of sales for their 3DS system, Nintendo has not announced any plans to bring the games to the 3DS.

Nintendo hasn’t dropped too many details about how Black and White will differentiate themselves from the previous two games, but describes them as “two incredible new adventures”.

Pokemon fans on the 3DS shouldn’t be too surprised about the move.  The install base on the Nintendo DS system is still significantly larger worldwide, than is the 3DS, despite the recent surge in sales for the company.  It would give the company a much larger audience to market the games to, and since the originals debuted there, most of their target buyers for the game are likely still using their older systems.

Perhaps the company will hold off on an exclusive Pokemon release on the 3DS when the time is right, but since Nintendo hasn’t said much about a 3DS version, it could be something they’re saving for a future date, we’ll have to wait and see.
