Eddie is seen hanging out in what looks like a French Quarter hotel room, and Venom asks Eddie if he would like to take in the alien’s cosmic knowledge. As soon as Eddie accepts, lights flash and the TV interrupts: All of a sudden, he’s in a brand new, posh hotel room with a duck towel on the bed. A breaking-news alert comes on the TV that the MCU fans already know: It’s the same end-credits scene from 2019’s Spider-Man: Far From Home where J. Jonah Jameson (J.K. Simmons) publicly outs teenage Peter Parker (Tom Holland) as Spider-Man. “That guy,” Venom says cryptically as his long tongue licks Peter’s image.
After years of waiting, it’s finally happening: Spider-Man and Venom will meet in the MCU. Eddie somehow ended up in Marvel. It may be a variation of the timeline that has both Tom Holland’s Spider-Man and Tom Hardy’s Venom in it. What about the rest of the MCU? There is no way to tell because the scene ends so abruptly.
Director Andy Serkis revealed that the stinger was one of the last elements to come together for Venom: Let There Be Carnage. “[The mid-credits scene was] 100 percent in flux, yeah. It couldn’t have been more in flux-y if you tried,” he told The Hollywood Reporter. “There were moments where [Spider-Man] was going to be in the story, potentially, and then he wasn’t. But no, we decided that we wanted to examine the Venom-verse first. So as we were going through principal photography, the inevitable discussions had to be had, but it wasn’t until very, very late on that we reached the precise notion of the teaser that we wanted to lay in there.”

Spidey and Doctor Strange (Benedict Cumberbatch) join forces in the upcoming film Spider-Man: No Way Home (in theaters Dec. 17). The story arc revolves around Peter Parker’s secret identity reveal. Spider-Man’s other comic book foes, such as Doctor Octopus (Alfred Molina), are also showing up in the film, so maybe Venom will show up as well.
