After over four years of the infamous college admission scam, Varsity blues mastermind Rick Singer has been sentenced. Back in 2019, Singer was enshrouded alongside other prominent people who paid huge sums of money to aid their kid’s admissions into top-tier colleges.

Details Of Rick Singer’s Sentence

Singer’s sentence is considered to be the longest duration so far since the parties involved faced the court verdict. He was sentenced to three and a half years in prison. The Hollywood executive has been working with authorities since 2018 when investigations commenced on the admission scams.

The producer was said to have immediately pleaded guilty to obstruction of justice and conspiracy to commit money laundering. These offenses were said to invoke sentences of up to 20 years. Since Singer’s plea, he has been working with authorities to get a lighter sentence.

However, at a point, Singer was said to have tried sabotaging evidence by tipping some of his clients involved. Due to this, he was not called as a witness in court. For his sentencing, the 62-year-old returned to the court in Boston pleading with the judge. Rick Singer made it known that he was “ashamed” of his misconduct in varsity blues.

Per Dailymail, the disgraced executive’s attorneys pleaded with the judge for a probation-only sentence, but this obviously did not work. In addition to his prison term, Singer is required to pay $10 million to the IRS.

What Led To The Varsity Blues Lawsuit?

Back in 2019, authorities indicted several parents including celebrities like Lori Loughlin, Mossimo Giannuli, and Felicity Huffman. The parents who numbered up to 40 paid huge sums to facilitate their children’s admissions into prestigious colleges.

Singer received funds up $500,000 as a bribe to boost SAT scores and award scholarships from schools like USC. Speaking about his crime, the screenwriter relayed:

After his release, Singer will be under supervision for three years.
