Vanessa Hudgens was recently asked about the cult phenomenon that is High School Musical. While talking to Entertainment Tonight, the star was shocked that it has been fifteen years since it first dropped. But she is also quick to point out that she didn’t imagine it would have this long of a run. High School Musical is an iconic film that captures a time in pop culture all but lost to us now. It is a dash of innocence in an impure world. And who doesn’t need a little innocence in these modern, violent times?
In talking about the film, she says she would’ve never been driven to do it if it weren’t for Natalie Wood in West Side Story. She says that musical theater was something she was very excited to pass on to new generations. She hoped it would inspire other young people the way it inspired her. Vanessa Hudgens declares that ‘High School Musical will never die because of the fans,’ and she’s right.
She told E.T:
We’re In This Together (Still)
A fact that is undeniably true. The fact is, if you are an adult in your 20s or 30s now, you know every song from this film by heart. And that also counts for the people who dislike it. Like it or not, it is filled with catchy pop songs that society has held onto since. In an even crazier twist, young couples who grew up loving HSM are now introducing their children to it. Throughout the generations, High School Musical will truly never die.
A new generation to get sucked up into that pure, wholesome world we all wish still existed. The sad fact is if they remade this movie now, all the kids would have flack jackets on.
