Rumors are going around saying Valve is working in Left 4 Dead 3, but that isn’t the case. According to representatives from Valve, the developer is not working on a follow-up title to Left 4 Dead 2 at all.

In a statement to IGN, Valve said,

The rumors come after several posts from HTC China president Alvin Wang Graylin posted slides from his talk on how VR will change in 2020.

One of his posts says Valve’s Half-Life Alyx will drive consumer and AAA studio interest. But it’s the inclusion of the letters LFD3 that has everyone in an uproar. Many thought it was perhaps a leak that Valve was working on developing a sequel to L4D2 for virtual reality. However, it turns out that this isn’t the case.

Valve went on to say,

It’s also interesting to note that in Graylin’s slide for the future of VR, he used the acronym LFD3 instead of L4D3. In a follow-up tweet, he posted the correct acronym for the series and said it was his personal speculation.

FYI, the #L4D3 mention is only a personal speculation, and all predictions are my own, and not official view of @HTC.

As mentioned by Valve, the company considered making a Left 4 Dead game for future consoles in the past but never turned the valve on the idea.

It has been more than two decades since L4D2 released, but Valve did release DLC for the game in 2012.

So, it appears the next Left 4 Dead game may be in limbo, at least for the time being.
