If you were to come across a Lox in the world of Valheim, you would likely find yourself in a fight for your life. If you put some work into it, however, you can turn the giant lizard beast into a ridable companion. This isn’t super straightforward, so allow me to help you get yourself a new steed. This guide will show you how to ride Lox in Valheim.
How to Ride Lox in Valheim
The first thing that you will need to do to ride the Lox is to craft yourself a saddle. This requires you to bring 10 leather scraps, 20 linen thread, 15 black metal to your workbench. The leather scraps can be mined from muddy scrap piles and are dropped by boars upon death. Linen threads are crafted with Flax (which can be grown) at a spinning wheel. Finally, the black metals are made by smelting black metal scrap (dropped by Fulings or found in chests in the Plains biome) in a blast furnace. Once all of these items are collected, craft yourself a saddle and go Lox hunting.
Once you have your saddle, you can set out to find yourself a Lox and tame it. This can be done by leading it into a pen, which requires 10 wood to build. Once you have the required supplies, equip your hammer and right-click to bring up the build menu. From there just head over to the “Building” section. Build yourself a pen and lead the Lox to the pen just like you would a boar. Feed it some Barley, Cloudberries, or Flax until you get the prompt on the screen saying that you have tamed it. Note that the pen is necessary by keeping the Lox in one place so that you can feed it makes it easier. With the saddle equipped, approach your new friend and you will be prompted to put the saddle on them and ride it. Doing so isn’t only fun, it also improves the Ride skill introduced in the Hearth and Home update.
