You may have noticed during your adventures in Valheim, that you have come across treasure troves of seemingly useless Coins. Well, hopefully, you have decided to save these Coins because they do actually serve a purpose. They are required to purchase items with Haldor the Trader in Valheim, who can prove difficult to find.
How to Find Haldor
Here’s the tough truth: Haldor is hard to find. He spawns randomly in the Black Forest biome but is not guaranteed to appear on your starting island or even islands nearby. Unfortunately, the only reprieve that Valheim players are offered is that Haldor appears on the map when you are in his general vicinity. So, the only way to discover Haldor is to walk through various Black Forests while having your map open. When you are nearby, he will appear a bag icon on the map.
If you are going out to deliberately find Haldor, make sure to bring the materials required to build a Portal with you. This will save you a lot of time traveling back and forth between him and your home base.
NOTE: You can start your game by using the seed code, 42069lolxd. This will guarantee the trader will spawn south-east from your starting location. This is not an option for players who are already deep into their own world.
What He Sells
- Yule hat
- Dverger circlet
- Megingjord
- Ymir Flesh
- Fishing Rod
- Fishing Bait x50
We strongly suggest that you purchase Megingjord first. This is Haldor’s best offering and it’s not even close. Megingjord will allow you to carry 33% more than you previously could. This is enormously useful for gathering and ferrying ore. The next item you should purchase is Ymir flesh as this will allow you to build a powerful one-handed hammer called Frostner.
How to Gather Coins
The easiest way to gather Coins is to raid Burial Chambers in the Black Forest. Since you’ll probably spend a good deal of time in the Black Forest looking for Haldor, you can use the time to gather Coins. You need to gather Amber, Amber pearls, Rubies, and Coins. You can then bring these items to sell to Haldor the Trader when you find him. Generally, you can expect to find about 100 to 200 coins per Burial Chambers run.

If you can’t easily find Haldor, don’t stress out. While the items he offers are welcome bonuses, they are far from essential to progress. You will still be able to defeat the bosses without them.
