One of the more annoying things about Valheim is that you don’t really unlock any recipes by any other methods than by having all of the materials in your inventory at one point. That means you could see a new item and not know its value until you get all the materials needed for a recipe. Considering you won’t find Ymir Flesh in the way you’ll find most materials – you’ll only find it in the inventory of a particular merchant, Haldor – you may be left with it in your inventory, wondering what exactly you may be doing with Ymir Flesh and why it might be worth the 120 coins Haldor charges for it. This guide will help you figure out whether or not it’s worth the price of admission and how much you should be stocking up on if you feel that it’s worth it.

All About Ymir Flesh

Like I mentioned before, Ymir Flesh is kind of a funny item in that it can only be found by locating Haldor the Merchant in the Black Forest biome and purchasing it off of him for 120 coins. Compared to some of Haldor’s other inventory you might be wondering why it’s relatively cheap: well, that’s because it’s a crafting item for weapons, meaning you’ll need to buy multiple in order to complete the necessary recipes.

The first recipe that requires Ymir Flesh is the Frostner, a powerful hammer that has an innate ice power to deal frost damage to enemies hit by it. It’s a multifaceted weapon that deals 35 Blunt Damage, 40 Frost Damage, and 20 Spirit Damage with a Knockback of 120. You can craft the Frostner at a Forge by using 10 Ancient Bark, 30 Silver, 5 Ymir Flesh, and 5 Freeze Gland.

The Iron Sledge is the other recipe that can be made using Ymir Flesh. With 55 Blunt Damage and a staggering 200 Knockback, the Iron Sledge can definitely be an asset for enemies that don’t require you to be quick on your feet as not only is it a slow weapon, inherently, it also slows your movement speed, as well, by 20%. You can craft the Iron Sledge at the Forge by using 10 Ancient Bark, 30 Iron, 4 Ymir Flesh, and 1 Draugr Elite trophy.
