Dark Horse Comics announces a brand-new graphic novel called Under Kingdom. The book, by Christo Bogacs and Marie Enger, is releasing next March. It follows a teenager on the search for their missing mother. Their search leads them to a magical underground set beneath West Virginia. Per Bleedingcool, the comic is perfect for readers aged 10 and up. Plus, fans of Adventure Time, Trollhunters, and Critical Role will enjoy the book.

Under Kingdom tells the story of high school freshman Shay. After the sudden disappearance of his mom, Shay begins a frantic search that will take him into a secret world beneath his West Virginia town. Of course, Shay finds monsters and all kinds of fantasy creatures in this secret underground world. With the help of his shapeshifting Aunt Sa’Belle, Shay must search for his mother and protect the people of the Under Kingdom. Plus, he must maintain his normal high school life.

While it is still a few months before Under Kingdom is released, Bogacs and Enger are eager to share their excitement about the book. Speaking to Dark Horse Comics, the duo struggle to put into words exactly how they feel about Under Kingdom. They share that it may be sappy, but the easiest way to summarize the book is “love.” Specifically, a love for monsters and the sappy underdog and the “unwavering belief in the power of empathy.” Plus, there are a few fart jokes thrown in for fun.
