Uncharted: The Nathan Drake Collection was officially unveiled earlier this morning after an early leak last night through the iOS webstore. This collection announcement was no big surprise following the reveal of the delay of Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End awhile back, leaving a major gap in Sony’s holiday season plans. However, while the collection is bringing us the most important part of the three games, there is one piece of the final two that is missing entirely, multiplayer.
Uncharted: Drakes Fortune was a single player only experience, but Uncharted 2: Among Thieves and Uncharted 3: Drakes Deception both had their own multiplayer. These were definitely not the signature elements of either game, as the single player story was the major attraction, but they still had a large fan base.
Honestly, the loss of multiplayer here does make a lot of sense. Unlike the Halo series that puts the multiplayer first, that is not the big sell for Uncharted. Especially after the debacle that Halo: The Master Chief Collection has had with its multiplayer, it doesn’t seem worth the trouble of keeping up with the online side when Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End will have its own multiplayer in early 2016.
Uncharted: The Nathan Drake Collection will be released on October 9 exclusively for PlayStation 4.
