The Uncharted movie has seen just as many obstacles as Nathan Drake himself. Now that the movie is on stable ground, the director revealed he will not adopt the video game’s storyline.
Director, Dan Trachtenberg (10 Cloverfield Lane and Portal No Escape), says he looked at different storylines for the movie but did not want to copy the games. He told Gamespot the movie would not do the game’s story justice.
Trachtenberg decided to focus on a younger Drake set before the events of Uncharted: Drakes Fortune. The video games did delve into young Drake in Uncharted 3: Drake’s Deception and Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End.
Drake lost his parents at a young age and was adopted into a Catholic orphanage. Some years later he met his best friend and mentor, Victor Sullivan, who jumpstarted him into a life of treasure hunting.
There is not a lot of material for Trachtenberg to pull from. He will likely create his own version of Drake’s origins for the movie.
The movie’s development was an adventure of its own. Many actors, directors, and writers came in and out of the project. Trachtenberg looks committed to his position and Tom Holland (Spider-Man Far From Home and Spider-Man Homecoming) seems stable in his role as young Drake.
The announcement of a December 20, 2020 release date also bodes well for the film.
The Uncharted series saw an abundance of critical acclaim and positive reviews. The Nerd Stash gave A Thief’s End( supposedly the last installment featuring Drake) a perfect score.
