We’ve heard for ages about an Uncharted movie is in production, and finally, we have a release date. The film is going to be in cinemas on December 18, 2020, which is somewhat surprising if you consider we know close to nothing about it.

Anyway, one thing is sure — it’ll be around a young Nathan Drake, who’s going to be played by Spider-Man himself, Tom Holland. It should have a tone in the style of the levels in Uncharted 4: Thief’s End where you play as a young Nate, that’s for sure.

As said, the movie has had quite a troubled development, since it has changed the script and directors multiple times across the years after its original announcement. The first script by Joe Carnahan was aiming for an R-rated film with Mark Wahlberg as an adult Nathan Drake, but that was scrapped rather soon.

Then, once the newest script was fixed, multiple directors got changed along the way. Night at the Museum’s Shawn Levy has been attached to the project for quite a long while, but he left it abruptly, and 10 Cloverfield Lane director Dan Trachtenberg has replaced him not so much time ago.

Now we have a release date, and that’s quite a relief, as it is a sign of confidence from Sony Pictures about the work that has been done thus far on the movie. Also, with Spider-Man Far From Home wrapped up, Holland is free to shoot it, and the production should be smooth moving on.
