From what we’ve seen of Drake’s latest adventure we know a couple of things. Number one, there’s going to be fire. Number two, there’s going to be sand. Actually there’s going to be a lot of sand. In a recent interview with PlayStation: The Official Magazine, Naughty Dog talks about this important element in Uncharted 3: Drakes Deception.
In the next installment of the game, Drake will be spending a large portion of his time exploring the Rub’ al Khali. The Rub’ al Khali is a giant desert, and as you’d expect there’s going to be a great bit of sand. Naughty Dog explains to the magazine how sand will play important part in the gameplay. There will be mirages, sandstorms, and a dynamic shifting environment that gamers will be playing through in Uncharted 3.
“We’ve done a ton of research…The way sand blows over and curls over the tops of dunes, the way it displaces and flows – it’s almost a liquid” – Amy Hennig, Creative Director
The story will be based around Lawrence of Arabia and his fascination with Iram of the Pillars. Iram of the Pillars is the equivalent to an “Arabian Atlantis” of sorts. Find this ultimate treasure will take Drake and Sully to a multitude of locations, some of which won’t be deserts. Two noted in the article were London and an untitled jungle. There will be some further plot development as you would expect in Uncharted 3. The announced villain, Katherine Marlowe and her role in part of a secret organization will likely play Drake’s nemesis in the game. However, it was noted that the story is still being altered at this time and with quite a ways to go before the November launch I’m sure some things will likely change.
Recurring character roles have been confirmed as well. Exactly who will be showing up in Uncharted 3 is anyone’s guess, could it be Elena? Who do you want to see in Uncharted 3?
