If you’ve somehow avoided playing Rayman Legends by now, despite it being available on everything but the Nintendo 3DS, you’ll get one more chance when Ubisoft brings the critically acclaimed platformer to the Switch sometime after the console’s March 3rd launch.
Ubisoft made the announcement today, saying the Switch version will be Rayman Legends Definitive Edition, saying it’ll include the same features as the base game on other platforms plus “several surprises,” hunting that those surprises will lean toward multiplayer due to the Switch’s “qualities in the multiplayer area.”
Released already on the PS3, PS4, Xbox One, Xbox 360, PC, Wii U and PS Vita, Rayman Legends was initially announced as a Wii U exclusive before going multiplatform on release. It has received tons of praise from gamers and critics, not just for its gameplay and variety – even including some musical levels – but also its gorgeous art style and sheer amount of content. Despite that, the game has only seen modest sales throughout its life, failing to meet initial sales targets while continuing to prove relatively popular.
Rayman Legends Definitive Edition completes Ubisoft’s launch lineup offerings for the Switch, which also includes Just Dance 2017 and Steep. Both of those titles will be direct ports to the console, although Ubisoft does note the upcoming free Alaska DLC for Steep will also be released on Nintendo’s system. The only Ubisoft title confirmed for the Switch’s launch day is Just Dance 2017; there has been no release date announced for either Steep or Rayman Legends Definitive Edition, but expecting either or both sometime this spring would be reasonable.
So far there are 10 titles confirmed for the Switch’s launch day, with seven more announced for March 2017 and at least 37 more planned for release by the end of the year.
Are you excited about Rayman Legends getting yet another release, or is this one game you’ll be skipping when the Switch launches?
