Creating a brand new title in the FPS market can be tough. When it comes after years of genre saturation, fans can feel burnt out. Compounded on a brand new battle royale, new titles face daunting challenges. In the free-to-play market, there’s always something to measure up to. With Ubisoft’s case, the new Ghost Recon Frontline didn’t go over so well. Announced at the Ghost Recon 20th anniversary, reactions have been harsh on the upcoming game. Recovering from the initial reveal backlash, the closed test was hopefully going to change some fans minds. Ubisoft is taking notice and scaling back to reevaluate what they have. When Will Ubisoft Test Ghost Recon Frontline?
While the criticism was heavy, there surely were some interesting ideas for Ubisoft’s new Ghost Recon. From class-based squads to unique items, there are some unique tools. Whether it’s from Fortnite, Apex Legends, or Warzone; fans will always need to compare. The 100 player format would take some adjustment like the first-person perspective. Yet, FPS players are simply burnt out from many titles including and pushing for battle royale modes. Whether it’s the battle royale format or just the free-to-play model in general; Ghost Recon Frontline being postponed means they can change what fans are reacting negatively to.
While this can seem like good news that they’re taking more time to adjust the title, it doesn’t speak much to those who aren’t interested in the format. Ubisoft was placing Ghost Recon Frontline as the next step for the series. Whatever this means for the future of the franchise, we will have to wait and see.
