In an unexpectedly frank statement, Ubisoft’s CEO Yves Guillemot has not hidden the fact that Ghost Recon Breakpoint and The Division 2 have proved to be commercial failures in the original launch windows and first year of availability.
Guillemot tried and reflect about what could have led to such disappointing welcome, particularly for what matters Ghost Recon Breakpoint, claiming it released too close to Wildlands and with very few “differentiation factors.”
“While the change of formula has been very well received by some players, with an average daily playtime per player of over three hours, it has also been strongly rejected by a significant portion of the community,” Guillemot says. The Division 2 also belongs in that speech, as shared by those attending the latest meeting with investors.
“What you need to know is, for us, it is not something we are happy with, but it is pushing the company to perform better,” Guillemot said at the end of the call. “And that’s what we are going to work on to continue to surprise gamers with very high-quality experiences.”
Via USGamer, we learn that the Q&A was particularly heated as investors have not appreciated the negative outcome of Breakpoint and didn’t expect that, together with the delays we’ve already talked about of Watch Dogs Legion, Gods and Monsters, and Rainbow Six Quarantine.
