If you’ve been out of the loop, the games industry has been in a rough place these past few weeks. There have been a lot of reports of sexual assault and harassment in the workplace, with many coming forward and talking about their experiences. Its been incredibly sad to see, but it’s necessary if this industry wants to be better going forward. With these recent circumstances in mind, many companies have begun investigating and issuing disciplinary action to these accusations, with Ubisoft the most recent. The company announces that they are beginning investigations into these claims and have already begun suspending some members of their team.
Ubisoft released a statement regarding their future actions. Part of that statement said the following:
Following this statement, Ubisoft targeted two specific accused members of the studio. Editorial VP Maxime Berland and Ubisoft Massive director Antoine Emond have both been suspended from their positions, but any future punishments have not been stated at the time of publication. Regardless, it’s good to see Ubisoft not taking these accusations lightly. Hopefully, any other accusations made towards their staff members receive the same level of attention and care. We all need to do our part if we want this industry to be a more welcoming place.
We’d love to hear your thoughts on everything though. Do you believe game companies are putting enough into investigating these accusations? If not, what else do you think should be done by Ubisoft and others? Let us know, and stay tuned at The Nerd Stash.
