Sony Pictures Television and PlayStation Productions have officially found a place for the upcoming Twisted Metal adaptation. Coming soon to the streaming service Peacock, Twisted Metal will see Anthony Mackie in the lead role after being initially announced last year. No premiere date has been specified, but it sounds like the TV series will be arriving potentially later this year. In addition to the Peacock series order, the show is also labeled a “comedy.”

The New Twisted Metal TV Series Finds a Home at Peacock

Not a lot of information is going around regarding the Twisted Metal production. Details are scarce, with Anthony Mackie playing someone named John Doe – perhaps a placeholder for the possible casting of Sweet Tooth, the video game series’ mascot. The Falcon and the Winter Soldier actor will also be acting as an executive producer on the show. Its development will be led by producers Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick, with writing by Michael Jonathan Smith (Cobra Kai, Diary of a Future President).

With the growing box office success of the Uncharted film, there’s a bright future for PlayStation Productions. The film adaptation sees Tom Holland in the starring role as Nathan Drake working alongside Mark Wahlberg as Victor Sullivan. It acts as the first-produced project PlayStation Productions, and it brought in $226.4 million at the box office despite COVID-19 restrictions that are still in play. While it may be disagreeable amongst critics, its success can propel the other projects to come into quicker production. These projects include the aforementioned Twisted Metal TV series, Ghost of Tsushima, Jak and Daxter, and The Last of Us, with the last one premiering next year on HBO.
