The implosion of Infinity Ward left Treyarch as the fan-favorite Call of Duty developer. In any case, the Black Ops games have had a distinct style to them, and Treyarch believes that players who liked Black Ops 2 are going to love the next iteration of the series.
In a recent interview with Examiner, “I think fans will recognize that it is a Treyarch game and it comes from the Black Ops lineage. We want people to know that if you liked Black Ops 2 you’re going to love Black Ops 3,” Treyarch Multiplayer Director Dan Bunting.
And there’s plenty of love for Black Ops 2. Activision revealed today that over 11 million players are still playing the three year old shooter on a monthly basis in the company’s quarterly earnings call.
Black Ops 3, at least on the multiplayer front, will introduce some pretty drastic changes to the way the game is played. Specialist units with special weapons and abilities are the biggest of them.
We talked to Treyarch’s David Vonderhaar at E3 and he echoed similar sentiment to Bunting. Vonderhaar did not believe that the changes between Black Ops 2 and Black Ops 3 would alienate fans of the series.
Call of Duty: Black Ops 3 is set for a November 6th release date on all platforms. PlayStation 4 owners will see early access to a multiplayer beta on August 19th, while PC and Xbox owners will have to wait until August 26th.
