Treyarch hosted a livestream earlier today to provide even more details about Call of Duty: Black Ops 4’s highly-anticipated battle royale mode, Blackout.
Treyarch’s David Vonderhaar, studio design director, and Dan Bunting, co-studio head, both talked about what fans can expect next week when the Blackout private beta begins.
One of the most important topics that Vonderhaar and Bunting discussed was vehicle health and fuel. Each unique vehicle will have different health or armor, but they’ll all have unlimited fuel as you’re traveling the map.
Vonderhaar also said that Blackout matches will obviously vary in length, but should take about 25 to 30 minutes (depending on how long you live, of course).
One of the most interesting segments in the livestream, however, was when Bunting provided two hints for fans to “chew on” this weekend prior to the start of the beta.
First, he teased that there’s an unknown multiplayer map from a previous Call of Duty title that’s included in Blackout. Bunting said that it’s in the Rivertown area, and Vonderhaar was whispering “South” in the background. He then said that “Nuketown is almost not even about Nuketown” and “there’s more that might be below the surface of that experience around Nuketown.”
Many longtime Call of Duty fans are thrilled that historic maps like Firing Range and Raid are making an appearance in Blackout. But the community is even more curious now about this unidentified map, as well as the mystery behind (or below) Nuketown.
The Blackout beta will officially begin first on PlayStation 4 on Sept. 10. The Xbox One and an early-access PC beta exclusively on Battle.net will start on Sept. 14 at 12pm CT, followed by the open PC beta, which is set to begin at the same time on Sept. 15.
Call of Duty: Black Ops 4 will then be released worldwide on Oct. 12.
