It appears that a relaunch of Transformers Comics will be on the way shortly.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, IDW and Hasbro are relaunching Transformers, starting in March of 2019. This new comic series, just titled “Transformers”, will “tell the story of Cybertron before the war, and of the mysterious death that ended an age of peace on the planet.” THR also stated that this series would publish twice a month and that Bumblebee will be one of the main characters.

Hasbro VP of Global Publishing, Michael Kelly, had this to say about the upcoming Transformers relaunch:

The series will feature covers by artists Freddie E. Williams II, Gabriel Rodriguez, Angel Hernandez, Ron Joseph, and Jeffrey Veregge. Joseph and Hernandez will help with writing this series, along with Brian Ruckley.

“We are excited to begin a tale that will be accessible and appealing to readers unfamiliar with Transformers lore, while still providing the depth and drama that our longtime fans expect. It’s a big responsibility, but we’ve got the right team and the right characters to do it.”

This news comes just before the release of the Transformers prequel (or is it a reboot?), Bumblebee. Although it hasn’t hit theaters yet for the general public, Bumblebee has garnered positive reviews from many critics, claiming it to be the best Transformers movie since 2007. On Rotten Tomatoes, Bumblebee is currently sitting at a 93% from critics, which should be a good sign for the franchise heading into its release weekend.

If the general audiences click with Bumblebee and the new comic series works out well, the franchise would be making a huge step in the right direction after a decade of missed opportunities.
