Have you heard of Transformers: Battlegrounds before? No? Me neither. Apparently, this game is going to launch out of nowhere on October 23rd for PS4, Xbox One, PC, and Switch. Yes. That’s next Friday. I’ve even checked the official site and barely got anything out of it. All I got is this snippet of the game’s plot. This basically is just another basic Transformers plot; Megatron wants the Allspark and the Autobots have to stop him.
Both the website and the Transformers: Battlegrounds gameplay trailer below also barely even explained how the local multiplayer works. Is it using a hot seat/turn-based system? PVP only? I’m so confused.
Still, at least the press release explained that Transformers: Battlegrounds is a “tactical action game” for all ages. Judging from that statement and the trailer, I assume this is going to be an XCOM-like turn-based strategy with a Transformers coat. Its Steam Store page is much more helpful as well.
According to the Transformers: Battlegrounds Steam page, in this turn-based tactical game, you will assemble your own Transformers squad. From classic fan-favorites like Bumblebee, Grimlock, and Optimus Prime to Arcee and Windblade. Your team can unleash powerful Ultimate Abilities to deal massive damage by filling up the Energon meter. Battling through various environments from Central City to Cybertron, the in-game maps will provide environmental cover and hazards such as sandstorms, Energon storms, and high-rise buildings in city streets. There are also several local multiplayer modes like Capture the Flag, Horde, Last Stand, and more.
