You could be cloning Pokemon from GO to Let’s Go, rather than trading them.

Along with the announcement of Let’s Go Pikachu! and Let’s Go Eevee! came word that the new games would have ties directly to Pokemon GO. The mobile title is one of the most popular in the world, so it makes a lot of sense to bring the games closer in any way.

One of these recently announced connections was that players could transfer Pokemon from GO into either Let’s Go title, with the creature appearing in a park for the player to catch. After checking the game out at E3 (read my co-writer’s thoughts on the game here), Nintendo made clear that while this mechanic is a sure thing, the actual way it will work and play out is very much up in the air.

At this time it is still not clear if the transfer process will even erase the original Pokemon from your Pokemon GO account. The assumption from most players was that this process would work similarly to trading from one main series game to the other. You would choose which Pokemon you want to send to Let’s Go and it would disappear out of GO and appear in your preferred title.

However, according to a Nintendo representative, the team isn’t entirely clear on that point or many others about how the whole thing will work. According to him, you might be able to retain the original Pokemon in Pokemon GO, simply using the transfer process to make a copy appear in either Let’s Go game.

Expanding on the murkiness of this topic, it’s currently not clear how the physical mechanics of the transfer process will work either, though the development team likely knows more and just hasn’t shared the information just yet. They know that the transfer process will use Bluetooth, but beyond that, everything is still open to changes.

Let’s Go Pikachu! and Let’s Go Eevee! are coming later this year, so the games are surely far into the development process. It’s possible that this transfer system is a late addition, thus the current fogginess around how the whole thing will work. It should be ready for launch though, so now we just have to wait to find out if we’ll be copying from Pokemon GO, or trading.
