The Toy Story prequel Lightyear hit theaters earlier this month, on June 17th. The animated Disney film starring Chris Evans as the voice for Buzz Lightyear, the astronaut who inspired the Buzz Lightyear toy. Tim Allen has been voicing Buzz Lightyear in every Toy Story movie that’s come out over the past twenty-six years! So when the ‘Buzz Lightyear’ prequel hit theaters, many fans of the Toy Story franchise were wondering, where is Tim Allen? People questioned, “why is Tim Allen not voicing Buzz Lightyear” and “is he in Lightyear at all?”
The Disney movies Lightyear page describes the animated sci-fi action-adventure from Disney and Pixar. The description reads that Lightyear is “the definitive origin story of Buzz Lightyear (voiced by Chris Evans), the hero who inspired the toy. ”

In a video interview, Tim Allen recently spoke to Extra about his upcoming series and his thoughts on the new animated movie Lightyear. Many were eager to hear what Tim Allen had to say about his character ‘Buzz Lightyear’s prequel film and why he wasn’t in it.
Tim Allen’s Thoughts on ‘Lightyear’
This is what Tim Allen has to say about Lightyear,
The longtime actor went on to say he originally thought that Lightyear would be made with “real humans” and be live-action. “This is a whole new team that really had nothing to do with the first movies,” Allen said. Tim Allen went on to say he thinks the Buzz Lightyear prequel Lightyear has a “wonderful story,” but it just “doesn’t seem to have any connection to the toy, and it’s a little…I don’t know. It just has no relationship to Buzz. It’s just no connection.” Tim Allen ends the interview with these words about his Buzz Lightyear. “There’s really no Toy Story Buzz without Woody(voiced by Tom Hanks).”
