Action movie fans have been over the moon ever since Top Gun: Maverick was announced. Back in 1986, the original Top Gun movie was the epitome of action cinema, it was also a project that slingshotted and showed Hollywood that Tom Cruise was here to stay. Now we have some new information about a fan favourite character returning to reprise his role in the upcoming movie. Rick Rossovich, the actor who played Slider might have confirmed that he may be coming on for a cameo.
It’s nothing official, but when Rick was being interviewed by Screen Rant for the 35th Anniversary of the original Top Gun movie, the star played around with the topic of him making a cameo. “…might show up in the sequel. Maybe, I don’t know. Maybe it’s a secret”.
This is what the star had to say. Going by the tone and his style of speech, it’s pretty evident that he will be back for a cameo. Slider isn’t the only original cast member that will be making a return, we have one more iconic character. Val Kilmer, who played the role of Iceman, will be making a return in the new movie. Top Gun: Maverick will also feature some new faces like Miles Teller who played Bradley “Rooster” Bradshaw, son of “Goose”, Maverick’s late co-pilot.
Kelly McGillis, the actress who played Charlie, Mavericks love interest will not be making a return. She has confirmed that she didn’t receive a call for the movie. This would make Val Kilmer and Rick Rossovich the only 2 original cast members making a return alongside Tom Cruise.
Sadly Top Gun: Maverick was one of the movies in the long list of movies that got delayed because of the Covid-19 pandemic. From 2020 to July 2021, now the movie seems to have received its official final release date, which is November 19, 2021.
