Oh dear, there seems to be a delay in take-off. In light of the recent delay of the upcoming Top Gun: Maverick film to May of next year, the team over at Microsoft Flight Simulator has decided to also delay the Top Gun expansion DLC to coincide with the new premiere date for the film, they have confirmed in a statement on their website.

The decision comes not long after Paramount decided to move a number of their films (including Tom Cruise films Top Gun: Maverick and Mission Impossible 7) to next year to hopefully capitalize on people coming back to cinemas and watching movies post-COVID outbreak. The Top Gun expansion was supposed to coincide with the film’s original release date, so the former being delayed has understandably resulted in a delay to the latter. It’s good to see that the delay is purely down to other factors rather than being down to issues in development, which we see too often these days.

The Top Gun expansion will be free to players, who have already been able to enjoy the delights of Microsoft Flight Simulator through their Xbox Game Pass subscription. However, the news that the game will be adding two new aircraft and a competitive multiplayer mode will hopefully tide fans over for now.
