January has recently become a month for significant game releases, with publishers and developers taking advantage of the typically slower period in the gaming industry to launch new titles. Here are some of the biggest games set to be released in January 2023:

Best Games of January 2023

This year’s January lineup includes a diverse selection of games, including Square Enix’s action-RPG Forspoken, the Dead Space remake, and Nintendo’s SpongeBob SquarePants: The Cosmic Shake.

Forspoken (January 24)

This action-adventure game from Square Enix follows the story of Lucy, a young woman with magical abilities who must navigate a mysterious and dangerous world. The game will be released on January 24 for PlayStation 5 and PC.

Dead Space (January 27)

This highly anticipated horror game is a reboot of the popular franchise. Players take on the role of Isaac Clarke, an engineer who must fight off a terrifying alien threat on a derelict spaceship. Dead Space is set to release on January 27 for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC.

SpongeBob SquarePants: The Cosmic Shake (January 31)

SpongeBob SquarePants games from the PS2 period helped alter the idea that video game adaptations of well-known cartoon shows would be terrible. Therefore, THQ Nordic is okay with producing more of these titles for contemporary platforms. In this game, SpongeBob, Patrick, and Squidward travel back in time to the Paleozoic Era to visit places like the Wild West Jellyfish Fields and the Kelp Forest.

Persona 3 Portable and Persona 4 Golden (January 19)

Atlus is releasing two older Persona games, Persona 3 Portable and Persona 4 Golden, on PlayStation, Xbox, and Switch consoles this month. These updated versions of the games will feature options for English and Japanese voice acting, quick-save features, improved graphics, and other updates. This news comes after the recent release of Persona 5 Royal.

Age of Empires II: Definitive Edition (January 31)

As part of the 25th-anniversary celebration of the Age of Empires series, Age of Empires II: Definitive Edition will be released on Xbox consoles and Xbox Game Pass this month. The developer, World’s Edge, has designed new controller inputs to maintain the strategic element of the game on the console while also offering traditional mouse and keyboard setup options. In addition, Age of Empires IV is expected to arrive on Xbox later this year.
