Ok fellow anime fans, gather around for some hype! This past weekend we were treated to the annual JUMP FESTA. This is a showcase festival for Shonen Jump, publisher of almost every modern famous anime. Similar to DC Fandome, it showed off a ton of new content and trailers. Due to the difficulties of the pandemic, a lot of anime series were put on hold at the time. As the world begins to recover, so has Japan’s production industry. And with it has come a huge line-up of new and returning anime for the next year! Here are the top 10 upcoming anime premiering in 2022.

10. Spy X Family (New 2022 Anime)

At the bottom of this list is an upcoming new series. Spy X Family is a charming action comedy that has gained some popularity as a manga in the last couple of years. Loid Forger is a spy that needs to create a cover family to execute a mission. So he adopts a child and takes a wife. Turns out, neither are quite what they seem. Though the premise seems serious, there are a lot of funny and cute moments to see. Look for it in April 2022.

  1. Overlord Season 4

What’s a top ten anime list without the hottest new genre of the decade, isekai? Overlord is an anime that takes the isekai power trip in a new direction. Instead of becoming the godlike hero of legend, Ainz Ooal Gown becomes the world’s greatest villain. This is all to keep his old guild‘s legacy alive, along with the NPCs that were created to protect it. Viewers can also see an interesting perspective as Ainz morphs into an emotionless Lich King before this magical and vast new world. A release date has not been confirmed yet, only that it will arrive in 2022.

8. Bleach: Thousand-Year Blood War Arc

In a truly unanticipated move, Bleach is back and looking better than ever. After a 2012 cancellation due to bad ratings for the manga, we thought it would never return. This was a shame because the anime cut off right before the final arc known as the Thousand-Year Blood War. But JUMP FESTA gave us our first official look at the final anime arc in all its glory. That said, the ending to Bleach was not well-received at all by readers. It was very divisive and unsatisfying, so we’ll see how it does once it hits screens next October. If that weren’t the case, it would be higher on our top 10 upcoming anime list.

  1. Devil Is a Part-Timer Season 2

Devil Is a Part-Timer is a quirky comedy classic. Originally airing in 2013, it focuses on a demon king who is thrust into the real world. With no powers and nowhere to go, he does the only logical thing. He gets a job at a local McDonald’s. It was unfortunately overshadowed by both Attack on Titan and Kill la Kill at the time. However, it has received a big following since anime became more popular recently. It’ll finally receive its sequel season next July.

6. Chainsaw Man (New 2022 Anime)

Chainsaw Man is another new anime hitting screens next year. The world of Chainsaw Man is ravaged by Devils, who personify and feed on human fear. The main character Denji meets the Chainsaw devil, who wants to help him fight back. By making a contract with the little thing, he gains chainsaw arms, chainsaw legs, and even a chainsaw head. The series is understandably bloody. That said, the unique premise and cast have made it a fan favorite. A new trailer was released over the weekend as well. Similar to Overlord, no exact release date has been announced.

  1. Vinland Saga Season 2

4. Rising of the Shield Hero Season 2

The Shield Hero finally rises again. This anime came out in the summer of 2019 and was one of the top contenders of the season. The Shield Hero in question, Naofumi Iwatani, is summoned to a different world and becomes one of four legendary heroes. Along with the Spear Hero, Sword Hero, and Bow Hero, they must combat the Calamities that strike every few months and threaten this world. An interesting point is that Naofumi is maliciously slandered early on, and doesn’t want to save it. It’s only by making connections and finding his strengths that this changes. Now, after a long three years wait, we’ll get his return in 2022.

  1. Kaguya-Sama: Love is War Season 3

Number three of our top 10 upcoming anime is a returning legend. If you’re a fan of romantic comedy anime, this one is likely on your radar. It’s an insanely hilarious and quirky parody of the usual format. The main characters Kaguya and Shirogane are constantly fighting a war on who can get the other to profess their love first. If you haven’t caught it yet, make sure you do it before the April 2022 release of season 3.

2. Doctor Stone Season 3

Have you ever wanted to see a science fiction dystopian future anime with a whole mess of shenanigans? Well, Doctor Stone is the show for you. After a strange phenomenon turns the entirety of humanity into stone, the world reverts to a caveman-like era. Senku Ishigami awakens to this and must rebuild humanity with the power of modern science. It’s an interesting show for science buffs, but also a generally good watch. Expect some scientific marvels in April 2022.

  1. Attack on Titan Final Season Part 2

To finish off this top 10 upcoming anime list, we can’t forget the colossus of the generation: Attack on Titan. Any self-respecting anime fan at least knows this one. When giant grotesque beings called Titans attack the dregs of humanity, humanity fights back hard. The last few seasons have rattled the anime community with some extreme hype. An initial trailer and release date came in October. Part 1 of the final season left fans ravenous for more. And fittingly, it’ll be one of the first big shows we get this year. We’ve got less than a month until the January 9 release.

We hope this article has garnered some hype for you! It may have even turned you on to some classics making a comeback. Either way, 2022 will be a year that everyone will be able to enjoy some quality anime.
