If we take a look back at 2022 we can see a lot of new great games that came out and some others that got substantial content. This wasn’t an exception in the RPG genre. While God of War used to be a hack-and-slash, the implementation of RPG systems made it even more fun for some. Persona 5 Royal launched on many other platforms establishing itself as one of the highest-rated games on Steam. However, 2023 is going to be an even bigger year for the RPG genre. Today we have compiled our list of the Top 10 RPGs that are coming in 2023 and beyond.
10. Wo Long: Fallen Dynasty
Starting off with a game that isn’t that much of an RPG as games like Skyrim but still has similar systems, we have Wo Long: Fallen Dynasty. Developed by Koei Tecmo and Team Ninja, we have their next game which many people claim is Nioh 3. While it isn’t, the comparison isn’t that bad. The game has similar combat, customization, and many things that fans of previous Nioh titles love. Now, set in a Chinese setting, players will face human enemies and mythical creatures in this souls-like RPG.
Wo Long: Fallen Dynasty launches on PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, and PC on March 3, 2023.
9. Lies of P
Continuing with our Top 10 list of the RPGs that are coming in 2023 and beyond we have Lies of P. A game with a very interesting concept. The title is a souls-like game as well but with various RPG elements as we’ve seen in the genre nowadays. What is great about it though is the art style, the combat, the gadgets, and the take on this story. People have praised the game a lot since the first trailer, and everyone keeps getting excited with more things we see each day. For those who have an Xbox or PC, the game is also launching on Game Pass on day one.
Lies of P has a launch window of 2023 and will release on PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, and PC.
8. Eiyuden Chronicle: Hundred Heroes
The next on our list is Eiyuden Chronicle: Hundred Heroes. Those who see the style will instantly think of Octopath Traveler, and that’s more than fair. The game shares the visual style and even shares a bit of the combat, but the big selling point is that there are, according to the developers, over a hundred playable characters. This is great for those who want to enjoy a huge RPG with an enormous roster. The game seems a lot flashier than Octopath Traveler, and we couldn’t be happier.
Eiyuden Chronicle: Hundred Heroes is coming to PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch, and PC sometime in 2023
7. Octopath Traveler II
The next game we have on our Top 10 RPGs of 2023 is Octopath Traveler II. The first game’s biggest selling point was the visual style and the story. While the combat is praised by many due to how it goes back to simpler JRPG days, some others think it is too grindy. Even with that, it became a classic of the genre. Now, the second one is coming with an equally interesting cast of characters, each one with its own abilities.
Octopath Traveler II releases on February 24, 2023, on PS4, PS5, Nintendo Switch, and PC.
6. Diablo IV
While no one will ever let Blizzard forget the trainwreck that Diablo Immortal was, the fanbase is hopeful about the next installment. Diablo IV is the next game of the franchise that promises to go back to the things that people loved from Diablo 2 and keep things from the third one. With better graphics, new classes, a new villain, and a new story, Diablo IV could be the game that redeems the franchise.
Diablo IV is set to launch on PS4, PS4, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, and PC on June 6, 2023.

5. Fable
We’ve heard of games that have become staples or established systems that last until today. Resident Evil 4 was a huge inspiration for the modern action camera and Fable brought a great moral system that many games use up to this day. Announced a while ago, Fable is still a game that many are hoping for, and it deserves its spot on our Top 10 list of RPGs coming in 2023 and beyond. The game will apparently be a new beginning for the franchise with a huge world and lots of changes. While we haven’t heard a lot of it we think it is a great game to expect and will most likely be an Xbox-exclusive title.
Fable doesn’t have a set launch date yet.
4. Hogwarts Legacy
This is a game that many are already saying will be the best Harry Potter title to ever exist. And well, while bold, it looks like it. We’ve seen many trailers and showcases, and we can say it looks fantastic. Set years before the movies, players will be able to explore the castle and its surroundings with their own characters. You’ll be able to choose a house, create your own place inside the Room of Requirement, and even capture some fantastic beasts. If everything goes to plan, this might be a huge game for the next year.
Hogwarts Legacy releases on February 10, 2023, for PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC. April 4, 2023, for PS4 and Xbox One. And finally on July 25, 2023, for Nintendo Switch.
3. Fire Emblem Engage
If you have played all routes in Three Houses and have all characters in Fire Emblem Heroes, well, good news, the next installment is almost here. Fire Emblem Engage is the next strategy RPG game from Nintendo that will launch early in 2023. The game boasts a colorful cast of characters and a huge dose of nostalgia for veterans. The game promises to be great for both newcomers and old players of this beloved franchise.
Fire Emblem Engage launches on January 20, 2023, on the Nintendo Switch.
2. Starfield
The long-awaited Bethesda game, Starfield is almost here. Or so we hope. Starfield is the next huge installment from the legendary RPG developers. The game will take place in a vast universe where players will be able to explore, fight, and fly around different planets. While we already got a trailer that sadly had mixed reactions, we hope the final product is a lot better. We hope the company learned something from Fallout 76 and they’ll do right with Starfield.
Starfield has a release window of 2023 for Xbox Series X|S and PC.
1. Final Fantasy XVI
One of the franchises that put the RPG genre on the map was Final Fantasy. Since the early days of pixel games, players fell in love with the universe, the story, the characters, and more. Now, the 16th installment of the series is finally coming this year. Square Enix promises the game will have great combat, amazing music, and a mature story. We have high hope given that the producer is none other than Naoki Yoshida, known for his work in Final Fantasy 14. So, if the game is as polished as the MMO, we are about to get one of the best RPGs of the year.
Final Fantasy XVI will launch exclusively on PS5 on June 22, 2023.
These are just some of the games that made our Top 10 list of RPGs coming this 2023. While there are many more out there to be excited for, we can safely say that this year already looks great for the genre. 2023 might be one of the biggest years for RPG games, and we couldn’t be more excited for what’s to come.
