Sony reckons it’s way too early to make an announcement on the Project Morpheus price.

Game Industry interviewed Shuhei Yoshida who is Sony’s Worldwide Studios president. The topic about the price of the Project Morpheus was brought up.

According to Yoshida, he said it’s “too early” to announce the Project Morpheus price. He also stressed Sony is not waiting for the price of the Oculus Rift either.

Yoshida said Sony only announced the price of the PS4 five months before launch. He says they usually don’t announce the price of a product one year in advance.

He also mentioned Sony is still determining the costs of goods that make up the Project Morpheus device. There are a lot of factors they have to figure out until they can determine an appropriate price.

If Sony and Oculus want to make VR gaming mainstream, the price will be important. There needs to be a happy medium so that casual fans can enjoy it. If it’s too expensive, the devices might become too niche so to speak.

Both the Project Morpheus and Oculus Rift will be coming out in 2016. Work still needs to be done to make VR gaming more knowledgeable to the common consumer.
