Spiderman: No Way Home is one of the most anticipated movies for the rest of 2021. This is the third entry of the Spiderman MCU films featuring Tom Holland as the titular hero. This entry of Spiderman will also feature some faces from the past including J.K. Simmons as J. Jonah Jameson and Alfred Molina, reprising his role from Spiderman 2 as Otto Octavius/ Doctor Octopus. Fans were delighted to see Molina return in the first trailer for No Way Home. In an interview with Entertainment Weekly, Tom Holland shared how much he enjoyed working with Alfred Molina on Spiderman: No Way Home, calling him “one of my favorite people I’ve ever worked with.”
“It was really fun to watch him see how technology has advanced,” Holland told EW. “When he was making these films, the arms were puppets, and when we did it, they’re all imaginary and CG. It was quite cool to see him relive it, but also relearn it.”
Rumored to return as well include Andrew Garfield and Tobey Maguire as their versions of Spiderman, however, that hasn’t been confirmed yet. The film’s trailer features Peter Parker asking Doctor Strange (Benedict Cumberbatch) for help after his secret identity is revealed. When Strange’s spell goes awry it leads to a trip into the multiverse, which is how Holland’s Spiderman can interact with past characters from other universes.
The trailer also features MJ (Zendaya) and Ned (Jacob Batalon) who will most likely be helping Peter get out of this situation. The three actors have formed a great trio throughout these Spiderman films and Holland opens up about the emotional experience making this film.
“We’ve been making these films for five years now,” Holland said. “We’ve had such an amazing relationship, the three of us. We’ve been with each other every step of the way. We’ve done every single film, every single press tour. So this one scene, [we didn’t know] if this would be the last time [we were all working together.] [It] was heartbreaking but also really exciting because we’re all moving into the next chapter of our careers. So sharing that moment with them was maybe the best day I’ve ever had on set. I don’t think I’ve cried like that ever.”
There is no confirmation that this is the last we’ll see of Holland’s Spiderman but the future of this character is up in the air. He may have future adventures within the MCU but Sony may also bring him into their own separate Spiderman universe with Tom Hardy’s Venom and Jared Leto’s Morbius.
