Well, it seems the Venom 2 news is just going to keep coming. Recently, news began to circulate that Sony was eying Andy Serkis as the sequel’s director. And it was confirmed to be official only yesterday. Now, there’s a bit more news for fans of the anti-hero to get excited about. It seems star Tom Hardy will be helping with the script.

The news comes directly via Andy Serkis himself. The actor/director was attending a press event for the Television Critics Association to promote FX’s A Christmas Carol. The mini-series will see Serkis play the Ghost of Christmas Past. But as the news about his next job had just broken, conversations naturally turned to Venom 2.

Serkis is excited about the visual ideas he has in mind, even though the sequel is still in the early stages of development. But then he dropped this little morsel:

This wouldn’t be the first time an actor has helped contribute to the story for a sequel. Writer/director Richard Linklater enlisted the help of stars Ethan Hawke and Julie Delpy when writing Before Sunset and Before Midnight. And both those screenplays scored Oscar nominations. That’s not to say Venom 2 will be Oscar-worthy if the first movie offers any base of judgment. But it may benefit having the person inside the character’s head contribute to the story.

Venom 2 could be Hardy’s first feature-length script credit. However, his full involvement in the Venom 2 script is, as of yet, unknown. Marcel penned the first script that Ruben Fleischer (Zombieland) directed. And despite not so great reviews, it still made around $850 million dollars at the box office. It makes total sense that Sony is trying their best to get the ball rolling on the sequel as quickly as possible.
