It took us all by surprise when we first learned that classic animated duo Tom & Jerry were making their first foray into the world of live-action. We never knew just how the clashing cat and mouse would look on the big screen, but now a new trailer has given us our first look at them… and they’re already at battle with each other!

In the movie from Warner Bros., the iconic rivals go head to head once more when Tom is asked to eliminate Jerry after he moves into New York City’s finest hotel, the day before what is called the ‘wedding of the century’. It’s got a pretty stellar cast too, including the likes of Chloe Grace Moretz, Michael Peña, Rob Delaney, Colin Jost, and Ken Jeong. The script was written by Kevin Costello with Tim Story signed on to direct.

The first thing you’ll notice in the trailer is the strange-yet-appealing visuals. It’s set with a live-action backdrop, yet both Tom and Jerry, as well as other animals involved, are animated. It is definitely a unique stylistic choice, but for a movie such as this, it seems to work really well.

Recently speaking to PEOPLE, actress Chloe Grace Moretz weighed in on her role in the movie. Apparently, she’s been a long-time fan of the cartoon:

This isn’t the cartoon duo’s debut on the big screen. Back in 1992, there was a movie, though it made the controversial choice of having the two characters talk all the way through. Due to this reason, the movie was panned by both critics and fans alike. Hopefully, the upcoming movie will fare better. Currently, there is no specific release date for Tom & Jerry: The Movie. However, we can expect it to premiere sometime in 2021, providing the coronavirus pandemic doesn’t change anything. Watch this space.
