Tolkien: Maker of Middle-Earth is a new exhibit coming to The Morgan Library and Museum in New York City. The exhibit is set to run from January 25th – May 12th of 2019. The museum has stated:
Admission is available on a first come-first serve basis without the possibility of advance sales. Individual admission is $22 for adults, $14 for seniors, and $13 for students with a valid ID. Admission is free on Fridays from 7 PM to 9 PM. Costumes are allowed but no masks, staffs, or weapons are permitted. The museum also forbids photography of any kind.
In addition to the displays at the museum, there will be other Tolkien related activities. On April 4th, from 7-9 PM, there will be A Long Expected Party celebration. The event will include live music, Hobbit-inspired drinks, and after-hours admission. Tickets are $40.
On April 26th, from 6-8 PM, there is a Fantasy Watercolor Landscape workshop. The focus is on exploring Tolkien’s landscapes and then teaching attendees to create their own works of art. New York City artist Max Greis will teach watercolor techniques. Tickets are $45.
On January 31st, at 6:30 PM, there is the talk Tolkien and the Visual Image. Tolkien scholars Wayne G. Hammond and Christina Scull will discuss how Tolkien’s writings and art influenced each other and how other artists have interpreted his works.
