For many people, birthdays are a reason to celebrate. They are milestones in life and a good time to reflect on all of our accomplishments thus far. Humans around the world have various ways of marking these occasions. Whether you celebrate by getting together with loved ones, eating cake, or just playing your favorite video game, birthdays are an undeniably human experience. So, how do you translate that experience to something that isn’t human? More specifically, how do you celebrate the birthday of a video game? Indie developer Something We Made is answering that question. Something We Made has announced a new, free content update for TOEM in honor of the game’s first anniversary.

For the uninitiated, TOEM is an indie puzzle adventure game. Players take on the role of a photographer, exploring various regions, taking pictures, and talking to characters along the way. The game places an emphasis on exploration and curiosity. Thanks to the upcoming update, players will soon have even more to explore. According to today’s press release, the update will add a new region, called Basto, to the game.

How do you access the new region in TOEM?

If you want to access the new region in TOEM, it’s important to note that first, you must finish the main game. Once that is completed, travel to Homelanda and speak to grandma to begin your adventures in Basto. The update also comes with something nice for the trophy collectors and achievement hunters out there.

The update is coming to Steam on September 16. Today’s press release stated that PlayStation 5 and Nintendo Switch updates will follow “soon after,” although no specific dates were provided.

The indie puzzle adventure game is 50% off on Steam this week, as well as free this month for PlayStation Plus subscribers.
