Fans of Chrisley Knows Best are not alien to the years-long legal scandal engulfing Todd and Julie Chrisley, accused of fraud and Tax evasion. Following its hearing on June 7th, the jury found the couple guilty on all charges. However, according to Us Weekly, the reality stars’ attorney, Bruce Morris, expressed disappointment over the verdict.
Bruce also revealed his clients intend to appeal the verdict. Meanwhile, the court is yet to sentence the couple. The sentencing hearing is scheduled for a yet-to-be-disclosed date.
Todd And Julie Chrisley Are At Crossroads
The odds do not look in favor of the Chrisley Knows Best stars, who first became embroiled in the fraud scandal in 2019. During their court hearing, Assistant US Attorney Annalise Peters accused the husband-and-wife duo of obtaining over $30 million in loans using forged documents.
The alleged documents included a false declaration of their wealth and earnings. Annalise also alleged that in addition to falsifying documents for their gains, Todd and Julie hid funds from the IRS.
The attorney claimed the pair and their accomplice Mark Braddock targeted community banks in their schemes. They also utilized scrapbooking to forge financial documents.
Mark Braddock Isn’t Off The Hook
Todd and Julie continually insist that their former employee, Mark Braddock, orchestrated the fraud scandal. In 2019, Todd and Julie, indicted on 12 counts of tax evasion, conspiracy, and bank and wire fraud, released a lengthy statement denying the claims. They accused Mark of presenting fake documents to the US Attorney’s office in an attempt to take revenge on them.
They also claimed Mark stirred the case using his persuasive skills. Meanwhile, Mark, who admitted to committing fraud on the Chrisleys’ behalf, eventually got the US Attorney’s office to reopen the case. The office also granted him immunity from prosecution for his own crimes.
In his testimony, Mark admitted to having a personal, intimate relationship with Todd. However, the Chrisleys’ lawyer rebuffed the claims.
Meanwhile, Todd and Julie Chrisley face up to 30 years imprisonment. However, since they want to appeal the verdict, one can only wait in anticipation as events unfold in the coming weeks.
