A brand-new Nintendo Direct that would’ve shown off a selection of upcoming Switch and 3DS games has been canceled following an earthquake in Japan.

A powerful magnitude 6.7 earthquake hit Japan’s northern island of Hokkaido today, killing at least eight people and leaving dozens more missing or injured.

Due to this awful tragedy, Nintendo decided to delay this week’s Direct. A new time and date will be provided “in the near future.”

During Nintendo Directs, the company shows off upcoming games, content, and brand-new titles. Most Nintendo Directs are announced suddenly, giving fans as little as 24 hours to prepare.

Some news that could’ve potentially appeared in today’s delayed Direct includes Super Smash Bros. Ultimate and the new Pokémon Let’s Go games. But fans will now have to wait to see what Nintendo has up its sleeve.
