The stream has been delayed due to a deadly earthquake.
Yesterday (September 5), Nintendo announced that a Nintendo Direct was scheduled for today, September 6, at 3:00pm PST/6:00pm EST. However, due to recent events, both the English and Japanese versions of this Direct have been delayed to a later date.
Nintendo announced early this morning that today’s scheduled Direct stream will be delayed due to the recent earthquake that struck Hokkaido, a northern island of Japan. The 6.7 magnitude earthquake has killed at least seven people, with more than 150 injured and many missing. The earthquake has also caused mudslides that have destroyed several homes. This natural disaster comes not long after Typhoon Jebi, the largest typhoon to hit Japan in over twenty-five years, which killed at least ten people.
Of course, we’re all a bit disappointed that we won’t be getting all the Nintendo news we thought we’d be getting today, but the lives and safety of Japan’s citizens are obviously a lot more important than some video game news. We hope that the deployed defense force soldiers save as many people as possible and that all that can be done for the affected families will be done.
Nintendo plans to announce a new date and time for the Direct stream “in the near future.”
